Frequently Asked Questions

Blue Maui Photographers offer two time slot options most days.  The AM time slot usually offers cooler temperatures, less wind, and bright, vivid background colors.  The PM time slot is approximately one hour before sunset and takes full advantage of our west facing Wailea beaches.  The first half of the hour is often nice bright sunlight, and the second half usually consists of softer, warmer tones.  (If you haven't yet seen a sunset from Wailea, you're in for a treat!)  

One of the biggest reasons we shoot in Wailea is the year-round beautiful weather.  The area averages only 7 inches of rainfall a year.  While we can't guarantee perfect weather for your session, we highly recommend waiting until as close to the shoot time as possible to decide if a reschedule or cancellation due to weather is necessary.  If it does rain, it is usually brief and fleeting.  Keep in mind it may be raining just a mile away, but still be bright and sunny at the beach!  Cancellations due to weather are rare and are at the sole discretion of the photographer.  If it is determined that a cancellation due to weather is necessary, we will do our best to reschedule you for a time that works for you.  If another suitable time is not available, you will receive a full refund.

Cancellations for a full refund must be requested at least 72 hours prior to the appointment time.  Cancellation requests less than 72 hours prior to the original appointment time will be refunded 50% of the total cost of the shoot.   Requests for changes to existing reservations within 72 hours of original appointment time must be made by phone, and will depend on photographer availability.  If an alternative time slot is not available, reservation will be considered a "cancellation within 72 hours" and a 50% refund will apply.  Cancellations or rescheduling due to weather will be at the sole discretion of the photographer.  The locations where we shoot in Wailea rarely see rain, and if they do, the showers are usually light and fleeting.  Cloud coverage varies and often makes for some spectacular, colorful backdrops for our photos!   All "no shows" will be charged in full and will not be eligible for a refund.  Please call prior to your original appointment time with cancellations or reschedules based on the parameters outlined above.

All images come with a print release which provides you, the customer, the right to do anything you want with the images for personal use.  NOTE: All images are owned by Blue Maui Photographers and therefore may be used for advertising purposes. 

While every reasonable effort will be made to produce and deliver outstanding photographs of your event, the entire liability of the Photographer to the Client for any claim or loss arising from our performance is limited to a refund to the Client of the amount paid for services. 

This limitation of liability shall also apply in the event that photographic materials are damaged in processing, lost through camera malfunction, compact flash card malfunction, or otherwise lost or damaged without the fault on the part of Blue Maui Photographers.

The images captured during your photo shoot will be reviewed, edited, and provided back to you digitally via your private online gallery.  (Approximately 200 shots will be taken during your session and approximately 50 will be chosen by Blue Maui Photographers for final editing and uploaded to your personal online gallery.)  All photos will be provided in JPEG format.

Images are edited at the Photographer’s discretion including limited color correction and cropping. The Photographer reserves the creative right to edit and release only those deemed creditable as professional in quality and within the Photographer's artistic standards.

Every effort will be made to assure satisfaction according to the Photographer's professional standards, however, the Photographer is not responsible for subjective interpretations of photography.

What to wear - Welcome to the beach!  That means sand and water everywhere.  Some of our best shots involve getting your toes a little wet, so be prepared for potential splashes.  Depending on the day, sitting or kneeling in the golden sand might be an option too, so keep that in mind when preparing.  When it comes to colors, it's totally up to you.  Browse our portfolio or the internet for ideas on color schemes that achieve the look you're going for.   (We do recommend avoiding everyone in solid dark colors such as all black or all navy or everyone in tiny prints.)  A pop of color is always fun as well as mix and match!)

Ah, the breeze - You can expect at least a little wind during your shoot, and some days a little can turn into a lot.  Be prepared and consider wearing or bringing appropriate headbands, ponytail holders, clips, hairspray, etc.  Beware of floppy collars that may blow across your face.

Ah, the sun - Of course, it can get a little warm out there, so feel free to bring along anything that might come in handy for a quick "refresh."  Think water, make-up or towels.  Mornings can be especially bright, and while we might do some shots in the shade, full sun is beautiful, so consider your favorite sunglasses for some real world "on the beach" looks.

 Why Wailea?  The beaches here provide a wide variety of gorgeous backdrops for photos.  From coconut palm trees to wide open sand and dramatic lava rock outcroppings, you’ll find everything you need for a true Hawaiian feel.  Most of the beaches have views of multiple islands in the background – Kaho’olawe, Lanai, Molokini Crater, and even the West Maui Mountains.  So much to choose from and so many shots free of hotels or condos in the background.  The weather here is predictably beautiful year-round, and did we mention the sunset???  Simply stunning.  Something you must see for yourself!

Many of our clients do come from West Maui and their comments happily reinforce all of the points we mention above about the uniqueness of Wailea.  Also, keep in mind, commercial photography is not permitted on Ka’anapali Beach, so if you’re staying there, you’ll probably have to get in the car no matter what for your family photo shoot.  Enjoy the beautiful drive along the ocean to Wailea and see another part of this gorgeous island!

Blue Maui Photographers has all the necessary insurance and will secure the permit required by the state to legally take photos on Maui beaches for the day of your shoot.  This is all included in the original portrait price.

In common with other websites, files are stored with such details as IP address, referring pages, browser type, and time of visit.  Cookies may be used to remember visitor preferences when interacting with the website.  Where registration is required, the user's email will be stored on the server. 

How the Information is Used

If the Photographer is unable to perform any or all of the duties herein for any reason, including but not limited to, fire, transportation problems, acts of God, accident, illness or technical problems, all money received by the Photographer will be returned to the Client, and the Photographer shall have no further liability.

This limitation of liability shall also apply in the event that photographic materials are damaged in processing, lost through camera malfunction, compact flash card malfunction, or otherwise lost or damaged without the fault on the part of Blue Maui Photographers.

Photographer is not responsible for compromised coverage due to causes beyond their control such as other people's camera or flash, the lateness of the client, weather conditions, existing backgrounds or lighting conditions which may negatively impact or restrict the photography coverage.
